Industrial Advisory Committee
Each of the engineering curricula
has an Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC) assigned to it. The purpose of
each IAC is to advise the faculty on the ability of each of the curricula to
meet the needs of its various constituents in industry.
For the marine
engineering operations (MEO), marine engineering technology
(MET), and marine
systems engineering (MSE) curricula, the constituents include most aspects of
the maritime engineering firms, and include the various shipbuilders,
contractors, owners, shipping companies, and the like, all of whom are likely to
employ our graduates. The constituents for the power engineering
technology (PET) program are comprised primarily of representatives from the
shoreside power generation and distribution companies, and from the paper mills
in the state of Maine. Their insight regarding industry requirements and
recommendations help to ensure that the engineering
curricula remain up-to-date in content.
The IACs meet twice a year to
discuss all aspects of the academic and practical parts of each
curriculum. Members are appointed to a 3-year term. In
many instances, IAC members participate in many other activities such as
Co-operative education oral presentations, Capstone design project oral
presentations, and they have been active in interfacing with accreditation teams
visiting the campus.
