The Machine Tool Laboratory installed a new CNC milling machine in December, 2007. Prof. Giffin , and students Rick Stairs, and Kyle Martin machined the aluminum diaphragms for a TIG welding wire storage unit. Watch a short video (12 Mb) of the CNC milling machine cutting the holes by spiraling the table around an end mill!

The Machine Tool Laboratory installed 24 each new engine lathes in December, 2006.   Each lathe has a recirculating cutting fluid system, and many safety features including a transparent shield over the spindle and a treadle brake. Professor Giffin looks over his new lathes, which feature inch/metric controls, 3-jaw and 4-jaw chucks, indexable tool posts, and taper guides

Jeff Grey centers a work piece in a four jaw chuck for turning on an engine lathe. Serena Valentine polishes an inside taper she turned in aluminum on the large engine lathe. It's Hawaiian Shirt Day on campus. Professor Trundy (right) displays a fine example, while Prof. Giffin sports a model from "northern Hawaii."
