American Society of Mechanical Engineers

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers

Engineering at Maine Maritime Academy supports two professional engineering organizations on campus. The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineering (SNAME), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) have student sections which are active throughout the academic year. The two groups on campus function in close relationship.  They operate and receive funding under the jurisdiction of the Student Government. Both groups receive financial support from the parent organizations and SNAME grants two $1000 scholarships, annually, to the Academy section.

The student section groups plan and execute their own activities under the guidance of an advisor. These activities include in part, designing, building, and competing with a gravity powered, road racing car, industrial tours and field trips, attending stock car races, participation in the state professional engineering week activities, planning and scheduling the Fundamentals of Engineering test review sessions, and hosting the New England Regional SNAME meeting.
